The Master is ALIVE!!! Sunday April 6,2008

Hear the voice of one of the Followers of Jesus on the fifth day after the Resurrection:
The Master was alive! He came to us in the upper room. The doors were locked and there He was! It was really Him! He shard with us some words of comfort and then, as He came, He left--leaving us in our wonder and in our joy!

That was how it was back then. I can only imagine what they were thinking.

If we missed things before and He IS the Messiah, them maybe we will get it right now that He has come back from the dead! Maybe now is the time He will take over! His Kingdom now on Earth! Roman rule will end and the Throne of David will be re-established. How good is that and to think, I am here to see it happen!

You’d be mistaken!

As we know from this account and from history, Jesus had always had a different plan for His followers. His world is not the world we live in! His ways are not our ways. His end is not the end we were thinking of or hoping for! His wants will become clear to His followers. This is the Best-Thing-That-Could-Ever-Happen-To-You sort of a day.

The Master is ALIVE!
1. His Plan for us. To bring Him Glory and to FIND HIS WILL:  The whole duty of man is to love God, keep His Commands and to enjoy Him forever.  Not too hard, is it?  Just these three things and He will give us the POWER to get them done.  If He has called us to do and to be something/one, then He will provide the way to do it!  Believe in His Name!
(see chart called Discovering at end.)
2. His Will for us. To reflect Him in our walk: John 14:12
3. His Way for us. To respond to His Word in such a way as to show His power in us so that others will know.  1 John 2:5-7
It is not the ‘kind’ of animal we choose to use for the sacrifice, not how we hold the animal or how much force we use or that we say special words. No, He is the sacrifice. Lev 16:8-10, 20-22! He alone can satisfy our hearts and lives. Him alone!

Looking at this in the setting of the Lord’s Table. What did Jesus tell us to remember to do?
When He returns, what will He find? Phil 3:17-20
Be patient and stand firm. James 5:7-11
Be kept blameless 1 Thess 5:23-24
Keep this command 1 Tim 6:11-14

Thank you.

Questions and concerns for Small Group.
Looking back over the sermon notes, what different things can you list that was brought to your attention? How has the Resurrection of Jesus effected your walk...your life? Take a look at the eight statements that follow. Ask God to make Himself that real to you this week.
  1. He created me in His own image.
  2. He knows me and calls me by name, as He did with Abraham, Moses, Gideon and others.
  3. He has given talents and gifts to me . . . just as He has determined. I Corinthians 12:11)
  4. He has written my name on the palm of His hand.(Isaiah 49:16)
  5. He indwells me, since the day I invited Jesus into my life.
  6. He tells me that I am a co-worker and joint-heir with Him.
  7. He has a plan for my life.
  8. He has convinced me that I MATTER TO HIM.
In the Book of Exodus, we can be blessed to focus on this phrase that He spoke to Moses ... I am pleased with you, in Exodus 33:17. What an amazing phrase for Moses to hear ... really for any of us to hear. Moses’ life was far from perfect yet God was pleased with him. Ever wondered what caused God to say that? Perhaps God was pleased because Moses trusted God, as strongly stated in God’s Hall of Faith, Hebrews 11. There we read these words ... Without faith it is impossible to please God (11:6). It also says specifically that Moses...persevered because he saw Him who is invisible (11:27).
Many of us cannot imagine that God is pleased with us. But Moses heard God tell him that . . . God was pleased with him. In the previous paragraph we learned that God is pleased with us too, as we trust Him. So add these words to your memory bank ... GOD IS PLEASED WITH ME. How does that change how I do life? How I conduct myself at work...at home...at school...here at ICCS?

a wEEK aFTER: gLOW oR dOOM?

Passages today are found in Luke 24:13-35 and John 20:19-31.
It would be great if you read could these passages before you read on.  Thank you.
Living on the Wild Side of Life!
Rehearse what happened to the Christ on that weekend.
• taken and beaten
• nailed
• died
• buried
• arose from the dead
• seen by many
• lives changed
• told to tell others
• met every need/desire/wish
• still alive today

Two special stories that happened that last weekend. One took place outside with only two men while the other took place inside a locked room with only the disciples.

Luke’s first;
On the same day...third day after, two men were walking away from Jerusalem. Questions and sadness. While deep in talk/Jesus joins the two and asks what’s going on.
"What? You don’t know? Are you that new here?"   Then the sad story is unfolded.
"We had hoped…"
"And what is more… "
"In addition…"
"Then some of our number… "

but Him they did not see. Kept from them...
Jesus replies: “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!”

Then the On-The-Road Bible School was open for business! Jesus shares EVERYTHING about Him from the Scriptures beginning with Moses and ALL the Prophets.

He explained to them what was said in ALL the Scripture concerning Himself!

WOW! That was some talk!  And as they were hearing all this, they had no idea Who it was that was talking to them--at all--not a clue. Because, God in His sovereignty did not allow that until it pleased Him to.
It looked like Jesus was going to keep on walking so the two men urged Him strongly to stay with them. It was almost evening and the day light was going fast. Yet, the Light of the World with with them and they were unaware!

Then this Visitor to Jerusalem did something that caught their hearts and eyes! He took the bread and broke it and gave thanks and began to give it to them...and they recognized Him and He disappeared from their sight!

WOW, again!

Verse 32: They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"

What would you have done? Really strange thing here! You walked with a man you had known for at least three years and you did not realize it was Him. Your heart was so down and confused, you could not see Him as He really was. He spoke of the deep things of God and of Himself, and was 150% open with you concerning what the Word of God had said about the Messiah and YOU MISSED IT!

Good stuff, but you did not see the personal connection AT ALL.

And they got up right away and returned to the Group in Jerusalem to tell them what they had seen and heard!
That alone is the message! What they have seen and heard from Jesus--they passed it on to Faithful men and women who did in truth, passed it on to other faithful men and women who were faithful to do the same until it got to you!

Now, what do you do with it?
You Pass it on, too!

Let others know what you already know to be Truth! And how does that work? What power do we have that can help us? Look later in the Luke passage, to verse 44.

He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
45 Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His Name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what My Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with Power from on high."

All we need to know is here, in our Bibles!  But, here is yet more.

Turn to John 20:19-31. This is the small part that is not in Luke’s account but takes right during this visit of Jesus.

This time, the one with the question is Thomas. Poor Thomas! I do feel sorry for him as for all time, he is the one who is called a doubter but yet many doubted Jesus all the time--and still do! Now, Thomas was not there for the first time Jesus comes by. Why? Any number of reasons but the Lord uses this absent follower to show us who are not always there 100% of the time, how He feels about us.

Jesus comes in and says “Peace be with you!” And why not! He just showed up in a locked room! They were afraid the Romans or the Jewish leaders might be bold after they had Jesus taken. Oh, they were afraid alright! And they had every right to be! They had lost their BEST friend to a cruel death. He was murdered under the legal laws of the Romans. They could be next ...yet some of them had some information that really puzzled them. Some of the women had told them that this same Jesus was not dead but alive! Surely they were mistaken. Right?

Jesus showed up during their darkest moment and shone His Light into their darken lives. He showed them His Hands and side. And after He showed them this, the disciples were overjoyed!

Ever been in that kind of a dark time? Just heard that a loved one has Cancer. (That you are have Cancer.) Someone you loved had died. You loss your money in a bank scandal. You are beyond sad! The pain you are experiencing is too deep, too personal! Where is Jesus during these times? Why didn’t He heal? Why did He allow this? He did not show up! Why? Is He too weak?

Most of us do anything we can do to reduce or omit the elements of risk in our living. We do things like wearing seat belts when we drive, read labels on food to check our cholesterol intake, take birth control pills. People tell us that they will not have children because they aren’t willing to chance the heartache children might bring. What if they are born with a birth defect? If they turn their backs on us--on God?

God tends to fly in the face of all creation even though He knew what would happen. He chose to have children. He was very much unlike most parents who would take ALL elements of choice from the child. He did not MAKE Adam and Eve obey Him. God took a deep risk. It was a staggering risk, with deep consequences. He also let others into His Story, and He lets their choices shape it deeply!

Looking back in history, we find the Hebrews were being chased into the desert by Pharaoh and his army who wanted to kill with glad fury. The army was at their backs, tall mountains on both right and left side, and the Sea was in front of them, and then… Then God showed up!

Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego gets pushed into a hot furnace and was saved -- after they were pushed there. God shows up!

God lets the mob kill Jesus, bury Him, and then He shows up! Know why He does it that way? Because HE LOVES to come through for us. God loves to show His creation that He has what it takes!

Today, wherever you are, Jesus offers us a present experience of new life. Everything we experience is rooted in a reality and the Truth recorded in God’s Word. New Life is no mere feeling or hope. New Life is a reality, rooted in the historical resurrection of Jesus, God’s Only Son, our Savior and the proof that resurrection provides God’s ability and willingness to transform you and me. To transform our doom into glow! And He shared that with His two friends on the road and the rest of the 12 in the closed room and today, He offers that same word of care to each of us. He is alive, you know. And He loves you deeply.

The Resurrection: A look thru the New Testament

We are going to try something new today. I am not sure if the readers of this Sermon Blog will see any difference but, Faith, my wife and I will be sharing from this topic this morning. So, as a family affair, we will be drawing from our own heart and life to speak to this issue of Resurrection.

God is at work to reverse things. He took nothing and made something. He created. He took a small band of Hebrew People and made them a great nation--to bless the world. He took crop failure and hunger and gave a harvest of plenty. A beaten nation, He gave back what they lost. He took a dead man in John 11 and gave him back to his sisters--alive!

Turn with me to:
John 11:23-26
Resurrection teaching is from Jesus. His whole life supports this!  His teaching, His heart--His whole ministry is centered on this very fact that HE has POWR over Death and Sin.  He beat Death!  He also destroyed the hold Sin haad on Man kind by coming to life again.  Listen to who He speaks of this BEFORE it happened with one of the dead man's sister.

John 11:23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."
24 Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

I ask you as well?  DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?  If you do, there is power in your life that will and can change you for ever.  In fact, for eternity!

This was spoken to people in need of care/hope/promise.  Their brother had died.  They had HOPED that Jesus would come BEFORE he died.  He did not!  If He only came when WE wanted him to come, this would not have happened!  He did not come when we wanted Him to come and therefore all is lost!

Really?  Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life...so come and see what I can do with your dead brother!  Come to the grave site and role the stone away.  I did not come when YOU wanted me to come because I came when My Father wanted Me to come.  Now, stand back!  LAZARUS, come out!"

And he did!  And people were divided.  Some were very glad!  Others wanted to kill Jesus and Lazarus both!   Very strange.  I really don't understand that kind of hate...

A short time later, after Jesus was killed and rose from the grave, the Early Church met on Pentecost to pray and God visited them with Power.  The main message that was preached was centered on the FACT of the Resurrection.  Hear Peter's words:

Acts 2:30 But he (King David) was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was not abandoned to the grave, nor did His Body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.

This was the New Teastament teaching as the core of the Message.

Acts 4:33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.

Acts 17: 18 Good News about Jesus=Resurrection! 18 A group of Epicurean and Stoic philosophers began to dispute with him. Some of them asked, "What is this babbler trying to say?" Others remarked, "He seems to be advocating foreign gods." They said this because Paul was preaching the Good News about Jesus and the resurrection.

Rom 1:2-4   Key to the message

2 the gospel He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding His Son, who as to His human nature was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 6:1-10 United with Him

6-11 Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin's every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ's sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word. When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us. From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That's what Jesus did.   ~The Message

1 Cor 15:12-14 If this did not happen--we are lost! 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

_______________
In a real way, God made some changes to bring us into the family.  A story I found but can not find the author (my forgiveness, please), paints for me what this was like:

There was a doctor needed to cut a tiny twig of the facial nerve, the one to the muscles of the mouth.  That tiny nerve was severed.  The young bride would be that way from now on.  The surgeon had followed with deep fervor the curve of her flesh, but nevertheless, to remove the tumor in her cheek, he had to cut that little nerve.

Her young husband was in the room.  He stood on the opposite side of the bed.  The young wife spoke to the doctor after fingering her face.
"Will my mouth always be like this?" she asks.  "Yes, it will." comes the doctor.  "It is because the nerve was cut."
She nods, and is silent.  But the young man smiles and says, "I like it.  It's kind of cute."
All at once, the young man bends to kiss her crooked mouth.  He twist his own lips to accommodate hers, and shows her that their kiss still works.

Is that not what God did for us!  God is in Christ, reaching out to us in love, accommodating Himself to our condition, to save us, who have been twisted by sin--to set us free and to tell us that His kiss still works!
____________

Phil 3:10-11 Joy message: Power of His Resurrection!
10 I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Eph 1:18-21 His Power/Our Power
18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the Hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of His mighty strength, 20 which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

God promised through the Prophets.  Jesus claimed to be The Resurrection and the Life.  The Spirit declared Jesus with Power to be the Son of God by this Resurrection.  The Apostles were eye witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  WE can rely on the Resurrection Power to fulfill our hope of eternal life.  IF WE BELIEVE:  John 11:26  "Do You Believe This!"

2 Tim 2:18 who have wandered away from the Truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

Because of the false teaching that was going around at that time AND NOW, some people have had their Faith destroyed!  We NEED to know what we believe and when we believe that, we need to remind each other of the FACTS and live in light of them.

The Resurrection of Jesus if of central importance to our Faith.  He was alive.  He ministered.  He taught us what the Father wanted us to know.  They killed Him.  He was buried.  After three days, He came out of the Grave--very much alive and IS alive now!

Read with me the Apostles' Creed!

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

The third day He arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

He is Risen!
He is Risen, indeed!

HE COMES! John 12:12-19

John 12:12-15
12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting,
"Hosanna!"
"Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!"
"Blessed is the King of Israel!" 14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
15 "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion;
see, your King is coming,
seated on a donkey's colt."
16 At first His disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

17 Now the crowd that was with Him when He called Lazarus from the tomb and raised Him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that He had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet Him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after Him!"   (NIV)
___________________
Well, today, Pastor Stan had a little problem.  He was losing his voice.  He spoke in a very low voice.  It was 12 years ago Easter that he had the same condition.  Thanks to hot water and some medicated drops from a new friend and the Power of God, he was able to say...

Jesus knew what was ahead for Him. He had set His face toward Jerusalem for this very reason: to go to the Cross, just as it was written by the Prophets of Old.

There are three times during the year that all Jews are supposed to go to Jerusalem. They were all religious celebrations and the population of the city really grew. As this great crowd was beginning to gather from around the country toward the central city of Israel news about Jesus was spreading. People were wondering whether He would come to this feast (11:55-56). On Sunday, the day after the party in Bethany at which Mary anointed Jesus, news arrives that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem (v. 12), and a crowd of pilgrims, presumably those who had been wondering if He would come, goes out to meet Him.

Can you imagine the feeling of the crowd? You have heard of Him. Some of your group may have seen Him. Some others have even heard this amazing Man. Some had been healed by Him. One or two had been touched by His Hand. Many were asking some major questions as to WHO He really was and could this be the time of the deliverance from Roman rule?

People really wanted to know and there were plenty of other people who were in a place to tell them anything they wanted. Some, the truth, while others, twisted lies.

And as the narrative tells us, Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. This city had been the center of the Jewish culture long before King David. During the fight for the Promised Land, certain people lived within her walls. They were attacked and yet some stayed there as the Jewish people could not remove them.

The King of Salem was from there, or Melchizedek (found in Gen. 22 and in Hebrews 7. Melchizedek was the one Abraham gave his tithe to after Lot was set free.) And, as I mentioned just before, it was later called the City of David, his capital city and a city that was chosen by God to have His presence known and seen, as in the Temple.

A lot has gone on before this trip into the city. Back in John 11, Jesus’ friend Lazarus had died and Jesus called him out of the tomb after being dead for three days. People tend to take notice of such things. Before Jesus did His thing at the grave, He made an important statement.

Look at John 11:25-26.
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

I would guess that a verse like that would cause some to question, What does He mean? It sounds like something that does not make sense. Believe and die and lives and believes and never die. What does this all mean? It is all connected to this trip now to Jerusalem. Three things, this morning.

  1. Jesus came.
  2. They took.
  3. Jesus found.

1. Jesus Came.
Even when there was a plot to kill Jesus, which He knew about, Jesus came. My most favorite story in John comes when Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. John 9 tells of the the Blind man who was called to come to Jesus and was healed...all on His way to die. “As He went along…” sounds so innocent, yet, He KNEW. Yet He Came.

It was back at His birth, He first came. On that evening that Angles spoke to shepherds on the hilltops around Bethlehem, proclaiming the birth of the Promised One. And now, here He comes! Many were expecting a lot out of Him on this weekend! What a perfect time to announce that He would fight against the Romans! Almost all of Israel was in town. The garrison of Romans were there too but the sheer numbers of the people could put them down. The religious leaders were not siding on this Man’s side as they liked the power the Romans gave them. They were comfortable with how things were and Jesus bothered them big time. Yet Jesus came.

And today, He still comes as people look at Him, ignore Him, question His existence, ponder His Words. He comes today into our hearing as the One and Only Son of God who can and will take away all our sins and have us stand before the Creator God, clean. Jesus Comes today to do the same thing He came to do 2,000 years ago: to show us the only way to the Father’s Forgiveness and salvation! He comes. And people both open their hearts to Him and shut Him out. The time to open our hearts is NOW. NOW is the time for salvation!

2. They Took.
They took liberties with what they said and in most cases, I believe that they did not really know what they were talking about. They spoke out with words from the Psalms of Ascents (Ps. 118:25-26) and sang a Biblical welcome to Jesus. Caught up in the moment? Hard to know for sure but let’s look at the words they took--and spoke out to The Lord Jesus.

They cried out with the word HOSANNA! While in English, there is little deep meaning, in Hebrew, it is very deep and rich. It was a word that actually meant “Save!” or “Help!” which became an exclamation of praise. This was a word that people used to address the king with a deep need. (cf. 2 Sam 14:4; 2 Kings 6:26)

“Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!” Ps. 118: 26. There is not a truer statement every spoken. Jesus was coming in the Name of the Lord!

Then there is the matter of the Palm branches… These are symbolic of a victorious ruler. It was during the Maccabean revolt that these were used as a rally point for the cause: to remove foreign powers from Israel. This would make the religious leaders nervous as the Roman government would take notice that maybe a revolt was in the making.

While both the cry for help and the palm branches were powerful pointers to a powerful Man, what came next is even more important. They added a further line of “Blessed is the King of Israel!” They saw Jesus as the leader who could throw off the Roman rule. He could feed them, heal them, raise the dead to life and grant peace. He was the Number One kind of a leader. He was their answer but their answer was not connected to the right question. Back in John 6:15, the crowds wanted to force Jesus to become their leader but He did not. They took the situation at hand and tried to force Jesus to be a ruler of men. He could establish everlasting peace and subdue the Gentiles. But they took too much for granted, because He…

...3. He found a young donkey to sit on. Not a horse of power but a donkey. It blew their plans right out of the water! Jesus was always a number of steps ahead of the people. They were looking for Him to do this and He did that! To say this and He says that! There was no real power in the things the people had in mind for Jesus. What is it to be king of people when you are already King of the Universe! They did not ‘get it!’ They did not put the events of Jesus coming into Jerusalem and the Writings together. They did not grasp what was happening there then and I dare say, many do not grasp the importance today either.

Jesus found new meaning for the words of the Prophets. They cried out “HELP!” and “SAVE!” and that is just what Jesus came to do for them and for us all today. To help us and save us from the darkness of sin in our lives. “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!” This really speaks of Jesus.

Jesus found now the right time to be there. He’d been to this city many times before. Sometimes, He would almost sneak in. Other times, like the first time, when He was 12, with his parents, he was doing His Father’s Will. Now, too. This is the reason for this trip. He was to give Himself as a ransom for the penalty of sin in our lives. He went to the Cross a few days later, while those crowd were screaming out for His Blood! May have been the same people-don’t know for sure-and now they hated Him! Wanted Him dead.

What do you want? What do you say? “Help me!” Or “Die, You interferer of my life!”? How do you greet Him today says a lot about how He deals with you during the week to come. Jesus comes into our lives today...What will you take-what will you say to Him? Has He found a resting place in your heart?

Will you welcome Him into your heart today?

It starts with a SonRise Service at 7AM just outside the Kokukoen Station on the Park side, a few dozen steps from the exit.  If it is really raining, don't come, as it will be very hard on us being outside and all.  Showers or a light snow fall (!) would be OK.  (I hope for warm, dry weather!)
At 8:30, back at ICCS (6-16 Enoki-Cho, Tokorozawa) we will be serving a short breakfast including good hot coffee and Tea!
Then stay for GrowZone, part of ICCS' Christian Education Program--for all ages at 9:30.
Worship in the main downstair hall starts at 10:30, so plan to come a little early as many CEO will be there as well.
The Lord has Risen!
He has Risen, indeed!

He Comes! John 12:12-19

This Sunday is Palm Sunday.

What does that mean and what does it mean to us today?

While that is a good question, I do hope that the specialness of the day does not talk away from the true meaning.  Face it, when was the last time you were welcomed into a city or town , or even an eating place with this kind of fan fare?  For the people of Jerusalem, this was a BIG thing!  A VERY BIG THING!  Why?

Well, you come and see for yourself.  And while you come, stay for the Love Feast or Covered Dish right after the service.  Bring some food or drinks to share and enjoy the time with new or old friends.  He comes is the title of the talk but YOU come and worship Him, OK?

See you on Sunday Morning.

And while you are at it, please consider coming to the SonRise service just outside the Kokukoen train station (Park side) at 7 AM on March 23--next Sunday.  This is Resurrection Sunday.  We meet together during the early morning time to remember and rejoice in the fact that our Lord Jesus Lives!

The Early Church use to say: "He is Risen!"  "He is risen, indeed!"

The Church today needs to say that and live that reality each day!  Jesus was killed for our sins on the Cross and three days later, He came back from the dead.  He is the Victor!  He is Lord!

Then, at 8:30, please join us for a light breakfast back at the Chapel (6-16 Enoki-Cho).  Bible education takes place next at the GrowZone--for all ages at 9:30.  Then at 10:30, we will begin the morning worship service to praise and worship the Living Lord!

Feeling the Guilt Ezra 9:1-9

1 After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites. 2 They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness."
3 When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled. 4 Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled until the evening sacrifice.
5 Then, at the evening sacrifice, I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the LORD my God 6 and prayed:
"O my God, I am too ashamed and disgraced to lift up my face to you, my God, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens. 7 From the days of our forefathers until now, our guilt has been great. Because of our sins, we and our kings and our priests have been subjected to the sword and captivity, to pillage and humiliation at the hand of foreign kings, as it is today.
8 "But now, for a brief moment, the LORD our God has been gracious in leaving us a remnant and giving us a firm place in his sanctuary, and so our God gives light to our eyes and a little relief in our bondage. 9 •Though we are slaves, our God has not deserted us in our bondage. He has shown us kindness in the sight of the kings of Persia: He has granted us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and He has given us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.

There is a big question of how we can be identified with group sin as well as take personal responsibility for our own sin. God’s promises, as well as the warnings are there for all of us. Do we just take the blessings and the promises that sound good to us or do we live in the light of the whole council of God--even with the hurts?

The Facts as they come to light:

ºLeaders came to Ezra.
Why did they come to him?
1. There was a problem.
2. He was the leader.
3. He was a priest.
4. He was to be followed.
Ezra had the right stuff-not in the sense of having the stuff of the world-he had God’s attention.

º Told of the sin
“have not kept themselves separate from the peoples around them.”
This something that did not happened over night! They were a long time with this situation-problem.

Not a new thing so why this concern?

IDEA: They had just been worshipping the Lord...
They had been His presence, they felt the drift away from Him.  They were face to face with Him.  This was the first time for many of them and the very first time in the Temple there in Jerusalem.
(a heart in tuned with His will hear and feel His Pain…)

   a. ~in particular- they have been immoral.
   b. - they looked to other places to satisfy they longings.
••Disbelief of God's all-sufficiency, is at the foundation of the sorrowful moves we take to help ourselves regardless of what the Lord says.  They had satisfied themselves with what THEY could find and did not depend on the sufficiency of the Lord.  Where are you not depending on Him?  We just finished the end of Feb.  Sure, it was a short month, so maybe the money was not as tight as it might be THIS month. Do we trust Him for that?  Trust Him for other things we need, we want?  Does He know our needs?  Yes, and He is able to supply ALL our needs in Christ Jesus.

   c. - sufficiency should be all in Him, but they found it was not so.

Need to return to the things that remain the TRUTH. Tied to the vine. Walk by Faith. Live by Faith. Move in HIM alone!  We need to get back to the Heart of Worship!  It is ALL about Jesus!

ºBIG Problem~leaders were leading the people the wrong way!
And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness

QUESTION: What happens when the leadership leads the wrong way?
When they are teaching False teaching?  When they are involved in immorality?  Dishonest with money issues?

What is the role of a leader? To lead righteously!  The president of any country, the PM of any country NEEDS to rule righteously!  It is their role as a leader.  And when they do not, it causes pain and hardships for those in that country.  No matter who that leader is, HE NEEDS TO BE LEADING RIGHTEOUSLY!

Is it the same in the world? In the Church? In the family?
What happens when Dad goes south with his emotions/affections? What happens to the family when HE falls?
ºWhat can the family do to protect themselves?
•Those men who fall exposed themselves and their children to the peril of idolatry & that had ruined their community and nation.  It happened with Israel and it happens to countries and it happens to Churches!  Beware!
What is the 'tool' families can use?
~Prayer--when all else is tried, why not try prayer?
Ezra DID!  He becomes the example for us.
Why wait so long?
Note how He did this.
Felt the pain himself
Others of like heart/concern fell in with him.
Was prolonged in prayer.
Took on the sin personally
Looked to God’s Grace.

Forgiveness already there for them
• Isa 43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says—
He who created you, O Jacob,
He who formed you, O Israel:
       “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are Mine”

• Isa 44:26 who carries out the words of His servants
and fulfills the predictions of His messengers,

who says of Jerusalem, 'It shall be inhabited,'

of the towns of Judah, 'They shall be built,'

and of their ruins, 'I will restore them,'
• Isa 48:20 Leave Babylon,
         flee from the Babylonians!

Announce this with shouts of joy

       and proclaim it.

       Send it out to the ends of the earth;

say, "The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob."
• Isa 52:9 Burst into songs of joy together,
         you ruins of Jerusalem,

for the LORD has comforted His people,

       He has redeemed Jerusalem.

º What tools do we have?
Divine weapon 2 Cor 10:4-6
In the Spirit Eph 6:18
Is living & active Heb 4:12
Overcame  Rev 12:11
Put on the armor Rom 13:12

Looking back to Ezra 9:8~9 we can see how it is to be done. These are descriptive passages to give us a picture of how God’s man did it back then. Situations are different today-in that we are not rebuilding a Temple or a city BUT we are in the process of Him rebuilding our hearts and lives for His Glory. He has indeed shown us kindness. He has indeed granted us new life. Our lives are rebuilt and our hearts are repaired. We had been in ruin because of our sins but He has come to cleanse us. He has given us a wall of protection by His Holy Spirit to guide us and seal us until the Day of His Return.
First John 1: 9 Tools for the Faithful.
 Confession!
Following God’s way of covering the family and self with these tools of the faithful, and by confessing our sins and shortcomings to the Lord on a regular basis would be a Biblical way of dealing with the ‘stuff’ in our lives. Your response is your responsibility.

When the Music fades
Heart of worship

Words and Music by Matt Redman

When the music fads
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring that’s of worth
That will bless Your Heart

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus

King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus.

I'm coming back to the heart of worship And it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it

When it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus.
(-just listen & pray-)
I'll bring You more than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
More than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
You're looking into my heart
Looking into my heart
You're looking into my heart
Into my heart
I'll bring You more than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
I'll bring You more than a song
